Client: Merky FC (Founded by Stormzy)
Location: Croydon, London, UK
Project: Design and Build of Recording and Podcast Studio
Design & Acoustics: Sound Zero Acoustics
Build: Drum Installations
Duration: 12 Weeks
Project Overview
Merky FC, a pioneering initiative founded by the renowned artist Stormzy, sought to establish a state-of-the-art recording and podcast studio within their new headquarters in Croydon, London. This studio was envisioned as a dynamic creative hub for content creation, artist collaborations, and podcasts, reflecting the brand’s dedication to excellence and innovation in music and media.
Objective
The primary goal was to design, construct, and fully equip a high-quality recording and podcast studio that met professional standards for acoustics, soundproofing, and technology. The studio needed to be versatile, catering to both music production and podcasting, while also embodying the vibrant, creative ethos of Merky FC.
Challenges
The project posed several key challenges. The studio required precise acoustic engineering to ensure top-tier sound quality for both recording and podcasting, with a strong focus on sound isolation and clarity. Integrating the studio into an existing space within the headquarters required careful planning to optimise the available square footage while maintaining functionality and comfort. Additionally, the design needed to align with Merky FC’s brand identity, merging cutting-edge technology with a creative, urban aesthetic that resonated with the brand's audience. The project also had to be completed within a strict 12-week timeline to coincide with the broader headquarters move-in schedule, allowing for immediate use upon completion.
Approach
Initial Consultation and Planning:
We began with detailed consultations with the Merky FC team to fully understand their specific requirements for the studio, including the desired equipment, layout, and acoustic properties. Collaborating closely with acoustic engineers, we designed a space that would deliver exceptional sound quality, with tailored soundproofing, acoustic treatment, and optimal speaker placement. A comprehensive project plan was developed, outlining each phase of the build, from initial design through to final installation and testing.
Design and Space Optimisation:
The studio layout was designed to maximise the use of space while ensuring optimal functionality. The design included a control room, a recording booth, and a podcasting area, all within a compact yet efficient footprint. Merky FC’s branding was seamlessly integrated into the design, utilising custom lighting, wall treatments, and branded elements to create a space that was both professional and visually aligned with the brand’s identity.
Construction and Acoustic Treatment:
We managed the construction process, including the installation of soundproof walls, ceilings, and floors, with special attention given to isolating the studio from external noise and vibrations. Custom acoustic panels, bass traps, and diffusers were installed to ensure balanced sound within the recording and podcasting areas. High-quality, sound-absorbing materials were incorporated, and all fixtures and fittings were selected to meet the stringent acoustic requirements of the space.
Results
The studio achieved professional-grade sound isolation and acoustics, meeting the high standards necessary for both music recording and podcast production. The final design not only fulfilled all functional requirements but also captured the creative and bold spirit of Merky FC, offering a unique environment for artists and creators. The Merky FC team expressed high satisfaction with the studio, particularly praising the seamless integration of technology, design, and branding.
Conclusion
The successful design and construction of the recording and podcast studio at Merky FC’s new headquarters demonstrate our ability to deliver high-quality, tailored solutions for creative clients. By combining technical expertise with a deep understanding of the client’s brand and vision, we created a studio alongside Sound Zero Acoustics that will serve as a cornerstone of Merky FC’s content creation for years to come. Location: Old Street, London, UK Project: Installation of Office Furniture Across Two Floors Design and Supplier: Plan-It Interiors Duration: 6 Weeks (Including Storage and Installation) Project Overview A prominent global tech company, expanding its footprint in London, engaged us to handle the installation of office furniture in their newly leased premises on Old Street. The furniture, imported from a premium supplier in Portugal, required meticulous handling, temporary storage, and prompt installation to align with the client’s move-in schedule. Objective Our goal was to ensure a seamless transition from delivery to a fully furnished office space. This involved receiving, storing, and installing high-end office furniture across two floors, with a strong focus on precise logistics and efficient use of storage space, all while coordinating transport and installation. One of the primary challenges was the international shipping of the furniture from Portugal, which required careful coordination to ensure timely and secure delivery. Additionally, we had to manage a four-week storage period in our warehouse, demanding careful planning to protect and organise the items. The project also required the efficient loading of two arctic lorries and a tight installation window, necessitating close coordination with other contractors to ensure the office was fully operational by the client’s move-in date. Approach We began by coordinating closely with the Portuguese supplier to schedule and oversee the shipment of the furniture, ensuring it was properly packed and labelled for easy identification. We handled all customs clearance and logistics to facilitate a smooth process. Upon arrival at our warehouse, the furniture was carefully unloaded and stored. Each item was inventoried and organised according to its installation sequence, with regular inspections ensuring it remained in pristine condition during the storage period. Our team meticulously planned the loading process, dividing the furniture into two phases and loading it onto two arctic lorries according to the installation schedule. This meticulous approach ensured the furniture was securely fastened and protected during transport. The installation process began with the unloading of the first lorry and assembly of furniture on the first floor, followed by the second lorry on the second floor. We coordinated with other trades on-site to ensure the installation progressed smoothly, without interfering with electrical, IT, and finishing work. Final adjustments and checks were made, and a thorough cleaning ensured the office was ready for immediate use. A complete walkthrough was conducted with the client’s project manager to inspect and address any minor adjustments. We also provided maintenance guidelines and support for any post-installation queries. Results The project demonstrated our expertise in managing complex logistics and storage challenges. The furniture was securely stored for four weeks without any issues, and our well-coordinated transport and installation plan ensured the office was fully furnished on time. The high-quality installation met the client’s expectations, resulting in a modern and functional workspace. The client expressed great satisfaction with the project, appreciating the seamless coordination and quality of the installation. Conclusion This project highlighted our capability in handling complex office installations, from international logistics to precise on-site execution. By managing every aspect of the process, we transformed the Old Street office into a fully furnished, high-quality workspace, ready to support the client’s growing team in London.
