CASE STUDY:
Installation of IT Furniture for Brookhouse at Gaynes School

Client: Brookhouse, in collaboration with Gaynes School
Location: Gaynes School, London, UK
Project Duration: 4 weeks (August 2024)
Objective: To install ergonomic, high-quality IT furniture across four newly developed IT suites during the school summer holidays.

Project Background
Gaynes School, with the support of Brookhouse, set out to modernise its IT facilities by developing four state-of-the-art IT suites. The main focus during the summer holidays was to install furniture that would complement the high-tech equipment and enhance the learning experience. The goal was to create functional, comfortable, and durable workstations for 25-30 students in each suite, ensuring an optimal environment for IT-based learning.

Project Scope and Objectives

  • Efficient Installation: Complete the installation of all furniture within the short summer holiday period to ensure readiness for the new school year.

  • Maximising Space: Design a layout that optimises the available space while promoting collaboration and accessibility.

  • Durability and Aesthetics: Install furniture that is robust for long-term use and visually aligned with the school's modern IT setup.

Challenges Faced

  1. Time Constraints:
The primary challenge was to complete the furniture installation within a tight six-week window during the summer holidays. This required careful scheduling to ensure timely delivery and installation.

Project Execution

  • Furniture Selection:
After consultations with the school and Brookhouse, we selected ergonomic desks featuring built-in cable management, adjustable chairs, and monitor stands. Durability was prioritised due to the high frequency of use in a school setting.

  • Installation:
A phased approach ensured that all four suites were completed on time. Each suite was installed with precision, making sure that workstations were properly aligned with electrical and network outlets.

  • Space Optimisation:
Workstations were arranged in clusters to facilitate group work while also providing sufficient individual space for focused learning.

Outcome
The installation was completed ahead of schedule, providing Gaynes School with:

  • Ergonomic Learning Environment:
The high-quality furniture significantly improved student comfort and productivity.

  • Functional Design:
The suites were laid out efficiently, with well-organised cable management and easy access to IT equipment.

  • Positive Feedback:
Both students and staff praised the modern, comfortable, and functional setup, which contributed to a more effective learning experience.

Conclusion
The successful installation of IT furniture in four suites at Gaynes School during the summer holidays ensured that the school was ready for the new academic year. Brookhouse's commitment to quality, ergonomic design, and timely delivery helped transform these suites into efficient and modern learning environments.

Location: Old Street, London, UK Project: Installation of Office Furniture Across Two Floors Design and Supplier: Plan-It Interiors Duration: 6 Weeks (Including Storage and Installation) Project Overview A prominent global tech company, expanding its footprint in London, engaged us to handle the installation of office furniture in their newly leased premises on Old Street. The furniture, imported from a premium supplier in Portugal, required meticulous handling, temporary storage, and prompt installation to align with the client’s move-in schedule. Objective Our goal was to ensure a seamless transition from delivery to a fully furnished office space. This involved receiving, storing, and installing high-end office furniture across two floors, with a strong focus on precise logistics and efficient use of storage space, all while coordinating transport and installation. One of the primary challenges was the international shipping of the furniture from Portugal, which required careful coordination to ensure timely and secure delivery. Additionally, we had to manage a four-week storage period in our warehouse, demanding careful planning to protect and organise the items. The project also required the efficient loading of two arctic lorries and a tight installation window, necessitating close coordination with other contractors to ensure the office was fully operational by the client’s move-in date. Approach We began by coordinating closely with the Portuguese supplier to schedule and oversee the shipment of the furniture, ensuring it was properly packed and labelled for easy identification. We handled all customs clearance and logistics to facilitate a smooth process. Upon arrival at our warehouse, the furniture was carefully unloaded and stored. Each item was inventoried and organised according to its installation sequence, with regular inspections ensuring it remained in pristine condition during the storage period. Our team meticulously planned the loading process, dividing the furniture into two phases and loading it onto two arctic lorries according to the installation schedule. This meticulous approach ensured the furniture was securely fastened and protected during transport. The installation process began with the unloading of the first lorry and assembly of furniture on the first floor, followed by the second lorry on the second floor. We coordinated with other trades on-site to ensure the installation progressed smoothly, without interfering with electrical, IT, and finishing work. Final adjustments and checks were made, and a thorough cleaning ensured the office was ready for immediate use. A complete walkthrough was conducted with the client’s project manager to inspect and address any minor adjustments. We also provided maintenance guidelines and support for any post-installation queries. Results The project demonstrated our expertise in managing complex logistics and storage challenges. The furniture was securely stored for four weeks without any issues, and our well-coordinated transport and installation plan ensured the office was fully furnished on time. The high-quality installation met the client’s expectations, resulting in a modern and functional workspace. The client expressed great satisfaction with the project, appreciating the seamless coordination and quality of the installation. Conclusion This project highlighted our capability in handling complex office installations, from international logistics to precise on-site execution. By managing every aspect of the process, we transformed the Old Street office into a fully furnished, high-quality workspace, ready to support the client’s growing team in London.
